Cave of Elijah

Cave of Elijah | מערת אליהו

In progress

The project includes the rehabilitation and preservation of the historic cave and the structures around it while creating an accessible circulation system throughout the complex. In addition, the design aims to create a programmatic and aesthetic connection between the structures, to make the entire complex more cohesive and legible.

The new entrance to the complex is possible with the addition of a ramp, elevator, and a new bridge connecting the various areas.

The design intervention is minimal, preserving the original character of the complex while adding elements for accessibility and repurposing existing structures to create a canteen, information centre, and events space.

The story of the Cave of Elijah and the history of the site will be conveyed through the information centre, and the preservation of the cave will enable it to clearly exhibit texts and ornaments.
