Western Wall Tunnels | מנהרות הכותל

Completed in 2015

The project was primarily one of excavation, in which we’ve revealed and stabilized an underground space.
The 12th Century Cross Vault Hall's intricate excavation included reinforcement of the buttresses and the construction of supports for the vaults, above which is a dense urban fabric. Upon receiving the site, which was used originally as storage, most of the vaults and the buttresses suffered from decay and were on the verge of collapsing. Using three-dimensional scanning which mapped the points of failure in the structure, we’ve introduced a range of supports, including steel cages for the columns and steel beams, to open this hall to the city as a multi-purpose public space.
